| The wheat wagon transported grain after threshing to the grain elevators situated every 10 or 12 miles along railroad tracks. These were replaced by trucks which were much more able to cope with the high volume output from combines which replaced the stationary threshers. The grain elevators themselves are being rapidly replaced with major concrete terminals spaced wider apart. Old wagons, victims of technology and economics, still can be found in deserted farms like the one depicted in this painting. The wagon is painted in representational style against a semi-abstract background. |
