Tulips,Ottawa painting This picture was painted wet on dry with a minimum of water.Tulips are my favorite painting subjects because of their brilliant colors and intricate leaves. There is no better place to see tulips in bloom (besides Holland) than in Ottawa, Canada's capital. Its annual Canadian Tulip Festival with millions of blooms is the largest tulip festival in the world. The Festival got its start from a gift of 100,000 bulbs given five decades ago in appreciation of the safe haven which Holland's exiled royal family received during the Second World War in Ottawa. It is usually held in mid-May and features spectacular events such as International Capital City floral displays and a parade on water of decorated boats on the historic Rideau Canal.
