| The cluster of buildings depicted here is typical of the rural scene in Saskatchewan that is rapidly disappearing. In fact, since my original sketch of Laura some two years ago, the grain elevator has been torn down. The church and firehall are all that remain of a once thriving community. The watercolor painting is dominantly warm because of the yellow ochre underpainting.Other colors like mauve and purple are painted with a light brush after the underpainting is very dry to avoid muddy colors. The painting is digitally framed with a four-inch "Pompano Beach" topmat, "ice mauve" second mat, mauve v-groove and gold frame. |
