Red Roses in a Blue Vase Painting

This painting is a brilliantly-colored abstraction of red roses in a dark blue Chinese vase. Note the white tablecloth has been tilted towards the viewer to emphasize the blue vase as well as the intricately designed smaller Chinese vase. The background panels of grey-blue, yellow, mauve and dark blue accentuate the main focus of the painting. Roses, especially those with deep red color, have always been one of my favorite flowers. Watercolor, gouache and acrylic paints were used on illustration board. An underpainting of various colors can be seen in the flowers depicted on the blue vase and provides the color for the smaller Chinese vase.
